Early Professional Development

Early Professional Development is a 2 year process and follows on from Induction. You must have completed Induction, before you proceed to EPD, and you should have a report form indicating this.


If you are in the first year of EPD and teaching in the SELB area you should attend one of the training courses in October/November 09 which will inform you about the structure and requirements of the EPD Process.If you are beginning the second year of Early Professional Development, there will be no further training on the process, but a training day will be organised in January 2010 on a generic teaching and learning topic. In recent years the focus of this day has included topics such as Assessment for Learning, Motivating the Learner and The Learning Classroom.

In both the first and second year of EPD, substitute cover is provided for 1 day in school to enable you to complete the work associated with the programme.

Induction

The SELB Induction Programme for Post Primary Beginning Teachers will begin in September 09. The training dates are currently being finalised and they will be posted on www.clounagh.org by the end of June. You can access this site by simply registering at your first visit, giving yourself a user name and password. The site will be useful source of information and subject specific resources which you can download and use free of charge.

As a Beginning Teacher you will be eligible to attend up to 7 days training during your first year of teaching. The SELB will organise a Core Trainig Day in September, which is essential, to inform you about the training process and what will be expected from you, as well as ways in which you will be supported during the year. You will be able to attend 3 or 4 subject specific training days which are organised on an interboard basis. Details of these days will also be posted on www.clounagh.org.

Registration: It is important that you register with the SELB, if you obtain a teaching post in this area and to do so, please e mail Alison Magill at alison.magill@selb.org for a registration form.

If you have not yet secured a teaching post, either part time or full time, and you live in teh SELB area, then you should also register as above. If you are not in post in September, you are still free to attend the Induction Training Days.
